I agree for the most part. Spirituality is great. Searching for answers is great. But religion tends to cause more problems than anything else.
It also divides, creates an "us vs. them" attitude, teaches people that blind faith is a good thing, discourages asking questions, and causes people to focus more on an afterlife than this life. None of those are good things.
Downfall of the world? No. But like I said, it tends to do more harm than good.

People don't follow their religions. They are used as an excuse to be better than the next. (If I'm good, someone has to be bad.)
The only people that follow peaceful ideals of their religion are those from eastern religions out of India and the orient. I mean how many holy wars were fought by Buddhists or Hindus? They revere ideas instead of worship people.

Is not religion what causes downfall or wars, it is greedy and ignorance that creates chaos in this material world. On the contrary religion has kept us with some principles, otherwise the chaos would have been much worse. Foolish ignorants blame religion to be the cause of the world problems.

Did religion create Industry and the auto? Does religion cut down trees to make cities, businesses and parking lots. Did religion invent the A-Bomb. Did religion BOMB Hiroshima. Did religion kill lake Erie. Why is the EPA making GE clean up the Hudson river and not the Catholic or Presbyterian church (and WHY did GE choose Bethlehem to host that toxic waste removal plant)? Did GOD make acid rain. Did the Pope put PCBs into the water table. Is Allah responsible for global warming? Maybe Khrisna did it! Maybe he's having another fight with evil and that's causing global warming. Are you saying Buddah is responsible for SMOG!

If you take just a little bit closer look at history, you will find that religion is only a cover-up for the real motives behind most wars. A more accurate assessment would be to say that greed and selfishness are behind wars -- whether it's over land, money, oil, power, control, or hatred of another group of people.
Religion is just one small drop in the combined bucket of human cruelty and greed.

Organized religion will always strive for more power. No matter what religion it is. But human beings need to aknowlege their need for a spiritual quality to thier lives. So I think that organized religion could be the downfall of this world if we let it.

I don't! There are people behind religions, and people, with all their egoism, self righteous banter, fears, xenophobia's, are the ones that have caused all of the problems. What if there was no religion, wouldn't you then ask the same question about politics? And what about all the people who have been moved to do good as a result of their religion, like the followers of liberation theologies?......just my thoughts....

O K if you deplore the lack of peace in the world you could resolve to live a more peaceful life.
You could start by not posting insulting rants on R & S.
And by the way religion and religious beliefs are not longer compulsory so you could on the whole ignore them and still live a productive life.

I can't blame something that is inanimate of itself. Religion has no power unless man gives it power. Which would be that Humans need to take a chill pill as you say.

Religion has not caused any problems..it is the people hiding behind religion and Satan in control of them. Without faith in God...what would we do? We as individuals need to continue to pray for the lost souls and do the best we can to do God's work.
