I'm trying to make a banana cream pie and I don't want to go to the store.

i dont know about the half/ half when i need heavy cream and dont hav it i put a spoonfull or so of sour cream in some regular milk and stir it its always worked for me just used it in banana bread the other day hope this helps

maybe, but check cookbooks. Most cookbooks will list suitable substitutions for various recipes.Powdered milk will also work. you can learn a lot from the misc. sections of cookbooks. I learned how to measure a perfect cup of margarine, for example. Used to I would cram the margarine into the measuring cup. the easy way that everyone knows is simply measure out a cup of water then add margarine to the water until the water level reaches the 2 cup mark. I also learned you can substitute applesauce for shortening in nearly any cake recipes. so there are things you can learn in a cookbook. good luck.

No it is the cream from the milk that is needed. If you use half and half it will be like milky whipped cream, really runny.
