Burnese Mountain Dog?

Question

Please provide the pros and cons of having a Burnese Mountain Dog as a pet. I have the opportunity to get a one year old male. I've always admired their beauty but that's all i know.

This is a large breed dog, so be prepared for large breed problems---larger vet bills, larger food bills, larger toys, larger beds, etc. etc. etc. Also, consider your lifestyle. For instance, if you will need to board your pet, this can be more expensive for a large dog, or sometimes they are not accepted. Consider other things like---do you have a properly sized vehicle to transport the dog, do you have a large enough yard/house, are you prepared for daily walkings, training, etc. Also, these dogs shed enormous amounts of fur, just something small to consider. If you can handle all of that, get ready, you are going to love this dog!

Pros: Very affectionate with their families. Want to be with them wherever they are. Not generally vocal. Like to train and work in reasonable amounts but also enjoy down time.

Cons: Lots of hair! Very dependent on their people. Short life span. Serious health issues (bone problems and cancer at a young age are (common). The aloof nature of the breed can easily lead to aggression problems with strangers or over protectiveness of owners when dogs are not properly socialized and trained. These dogs generally do not think that every strange human is their friend.

The pro's have been listed- they're lovely, gentle dogs if raised and trained well.

Cons- they're huge and they slobber a lot. Because of their size you can't opt out of training.
