It started about 6 months ago.My vet doesn't seem to know the problem. He told me to try benydrilyn. It didn't help.

Take him to a different vet and get testing for all the routine illnesses as well as getting bloodwork done. It could be allergies but if benydryl didn't work then I'm not sure what to tell you. You definitely need a second opinion.

And you gave the Benedryl a good try and then went back again to ask him to do more checking???
I would get a second opinion, from a vet who seemed more concerned. Our vet calls after a few days to make sure there is no reaction or problems, or we are seeing some results, if we aren't then she wants us back so we can try something new... Doesn't matter what the problem is, they want to see results and care what's going on.

I would change vets. There has to be an explanation. It would be good to have the discharge cultured so the right meds can be prescribed. Did the vet look in the nostril to see if something was lodged in there? It's good that you are still concerned and trying to find answers.
