That's good that you're getting your cat spayed. As for right now I advise you not to let her outside because she might not come back for several days- looking for a mate. Any way, female 'queens' stay in heat for about 5 days.

It's good that you want to have your cat desexed and you don't want to add to the already millions of homeless pets around the world.

Some cats are seasonal callers and will call right through the warmer months, some call all year around every week with just two weeks in between each, some cats will call continuously until they're mated. It is really an individual cat thing as to when and how often they call.

If a cat is left to call and is unmated (I don't recommend mating for many reasons including transmission of diseases and also unwanted litters when so many already need homes) they can get pyometra which is similar to endometriosis in humans but in an animal, is symptomless and can quickly become deadly. It is distressing for them to call too much and can cause stress induced illnesses and leave them susceptible to cat flu and similar problems.

Talk to your vet and ask if they will do the spay and allow you to pay it off or check with your local shelters, some have a discount desexing program in place.

They stay in heat for about a week, but they can go BACK into heat about a week later.
Some suggestions............call the local animal shelter and see if they participate in the "Spay Day USA" program. I just picked up 2 certificates last week to get a free spay/neuter for 2 strays that I took in.
If they don't have vouchers available for a free spay, you may be able to find out if your community has a low cost spay and neuter clinic, which will save you about $60 over the vet doing it.
Make sure kitty stays inside while she's in heat, pregnant cats cost more to spay, and you dont' want to add to the overpopulation problem.

the dr. couldn't spay our cat for about a week and that is how long it lasts. make sure that if you lock her somewhere at night, there is no carpet outside the door or it will get ripped up.

if you don't have the money right now, try going onto the humane society website as they could direct you where to go for a less expensive spay/neutering program.

i'm also glad that you are being a responsible pet owner and having her fixed....oh yeah....if you're into outdoor cats (i don't think it's a good idea unless you have a farm) PLEASE keep her inside until she is fixed.

Cats stay in warmth for 5-7 days on conventional, and move warmth each 21 days 3 hundred and sixty 5 days round, except you're very northern. As they proceed to be unbred, their warmth lasts longer and longer, increasing the chance that they are going to strengthen pyometra, a uterine an infection that could be deadly. Cats in warmth are not very strong living house travellers, as they yowl, posture, and urinate on bedding and fixtures to enable different cats be conscious of they arrive in.

About 5-7 days, in the warmer weather it could be as often as one week on one week off. Please try and save the cash, because its only going to get worse for you and its not the cats fault, she just doing what is natural.
