My brother and sister are twins, and they were both born a month early. Nothing was wrong with them. When I think of a baby being born at 34 weeks I think of that being a big baby. My neice was born at 24 weeks. She's 16 now. If 16 years ago they could help a baby survive at such a young age then think about how a baby born at 34 weeks would be today. I'm not positive, but I would think they would probably keep the baby in the NICU as a precationary measure for a couple of days, but I think the baby should be fine.

Yes ma'am I had a baby boy at 34 weeks.. he was hale and healthy.. weighed in a 7 lbs 4 oz.. We only did two nights in the hospital and left the third day. I made sure to keep germy people away from him. Lungs are the last thing to develop and I didn't want a newborn premie with a lung infection. He's six feet tall now and lifts weights .. :)

I had my little one at 34 weeks and 4 days, how do I know it down to the date? because my water broke at about 29 weeks and I was in the hospital till that time. My little one was in the hospital for 2 weeks in NICU. He was intibated (a breathing tube down his troat) he was also tube fed and had wires every where. He was 5 pounds which the drs said was a big baby for being that early. It was a rough two weeks but we both made it and he has some allergies but the drs think it isn't from the early delivery. I hope this helps and if you are the one that is possibly having a baby this early I will keep you in my prayers, also please do e-mail me at a.soldiers.wife@sbcglobal.net I have a few more things to tell you if your intrested.

I haven't but I know of family members/friends who have.
The babies turned out healthy as can be. I was born at 6 months, I weighed 2lb, 13 in. long. My Sis was born at 7 mos, she weighed 4lb..I had a few breathing problems, and problems walking the first few months but other than that we were & are healthy. My Sister's baby was born at 35 weeks i think and she got to come home in 2 days. She weighed 6lb 1 oz..never had any problems at all..I would say that everything will be fine..good luck & congratulatons!

Usually, a 40 wk pregnancy is considered term.
A fetus was considered viable from 28 wks, now with avanced technologies, it's viable even at 23 weeks.
28-37 wks is preterm
37-42 is term
>42 weeks is post term
Labor starts on Expected date in 4%, one week +/- in 50%, 2 weeks +/- in 80%, 42 wks in 10%, 43 weeks in 4%.
A healthy baby weight is considered to be at least 2500gm.
For a preterm baby or underweight baby, the baby is kept under observation or given extra supports if required.
34wks isn't too bad. There is some risk involved.
Pregnancy is tried to continue upto full term if possible.

Seventeen yrs ago, my twins were born at 29 weeks. One weighted 2.11 lbs and the other 2.4lbs
They both did well and were in the hospital for about two months.
My youngest was born at 36 weeks and went right home with us. Wow, was that ever a change. We were used to having palm sized babies that has to wait to come home.
You will take your own path and whatever happens, you will get help along the way. Ask all the questions you need to.
Good luck and congrats.

I had my daughter at 32 weeks, she was 4 lbs, fully developed, had to stay in the hospital to learn to eat on her own.
Prior to having her.... about 2 days before, my dr gave me a shot to make the babies lungs not stick together should it be the case she was born early.
The nurses in the NICU were wonderful, I was there with her for 3 weeks (every three hours for at least an hour at a time). I was scared at first, but she was really alright, she didn't need help breathing or keeping her body temperature. Your baby will be just fine :)
