Physical therapy is used after one obtains a prosthesis as one must learn how to use the prosthesis efficiently and avoid bad patterns of movement. Furthermore, specific stretching and strengthening exercises are usually used in the prevention of and treatments of biomechnical abnormalities that may lead to gait deviations.

Probably one of the most exciting things to come out in prosthesis over the last 5-10 years is the development of silicone sockets which has greatly eased prosthetic donning. Fit and comfort are always of utmost importance.
Another exciting this was the development of the C-leg...a leg with a computerized knee for those who have an above the knee amputation. It has allowed for people to vary their speed and agility as compared to old hydrolic knees that were at a fixed speed of swing.
