we are going to a resort for a competition that my husband is competing in and his company is paying for it all. I've never been to anything this upscale before, and I am a little unsure about tipping techniques and how much crap gets talked when no tip is given in case I forget. Does the fact that his company is paying for it change anything?

Also, who do I tip?

even if your husband's company pays for all expenses, you have to tip as usual. as you are made to sign for the tab, you are expected to leave a tip equivalent to 15% of the tab.

You should definitely leave the tip. The service person/persons are doing the same amount of work no matter who is paying the bill. So leave a tip of at least 15% and up from there depending on the service you received. Remember these people live on there tips.

I'm so jealous.. nothing like a free vacation :)

Have your husband check with whoever is making the arrangements for the company to see if gratuities are being paid on behalf of the group.. it is quite possible that everything that is being paid for already has had the tip added to the bill. Of course things like bar tabs that you pay yourself, and bellmen, etc, you'd have to tip on anyway.

But really you can't go wrong with leaving a tip... even if it's a duplicate... because everything else is FREEEEE! I'd be tickled pink if all I had to pay on my vacation was the tips :)

Tip what you would tip if you were paying for it. If you go out to eat and would leave a 20% tip to the server if you paid for dinner, why would you not tip the 20% just because someone else is paying for dinner?
Nothing changes. Unless the company is tipping for everything you two do, which I doubt.

In Cuba, it is illegal to tip, so be very careful when going about it. All of the bartenders/waitresses appreciate, but don't expect, to be tipped.

Be sure to have plenty of cash with you. When you get to the resort, there will probably be a brosure (or even a person) that brings up the topic with you. Ignore them. Rarely is it innapropriate to tip. All inclusives are generally in poorer countries occupied by poorer people. They see little of the money you (or in this case, your husband's company) payed to be there. Share the wealth.

Don't set yourself up to "forget". It's not ok to "forget".

If the company is paying for it, and the resort is in the US, tip 18-20% on each tab.

You'll still need to tip bellboys, room service attendants, and random people at the resort, so be sure to bring cash. Lots of ones.

no. you still must tip. if a porter brings your bags to the room, the standard tip is $1.50 - $2 per bag. if you get a massage that is paid for, you would still tip the masseuse, ($8-12)....same in the bar...........the restaurant tab normally adds the gratuity to large party's, but I would double check on that. have a great time!

Don't tip. They know the score and they'll load the bill.
