I have a three year old male sheltie who has recently acquired fleas, and has even passed them on to me. We live at the beach, so he is in the water constantly. What is the cheapest, best remedy?

Frontline is a very good waterproof flea and tick guard. Only buy your heartworm and flea preventative at an authorized distributor such as your vet. If you dog gets heartworm or invested with lfeas or Lyme's Disease while on these products and you buy them at your vet, the manufacturer guarantees to pay for treatment of your dog. If you buy these products at a pet store or online, the manufacturer's warranty is null and void.

I use Frontline and I apply it in the summer every 3 weeks when my dog is in the water all the time.

It's not the cheapest but Frontline is very effective killing fleas and should be safe for a sheltie (which may have some problems with other parasite treatments like revolution).

Talk to your vet for more info!

If you live at beach then assume it is salt water which tends to remove the liquids that are placed near nap of neck....
also with long hair dogs the liquids seem not to be as effective due to thick long hair cover.
I have a cocker and bath her regular like weekly...to bi weekly
so I find using a Flee and Tick collar most efficent. As long as the color does not get wet. Don't go for cheap they don't last the 3mos they claim....ask you vet what they recommend.

why are you thinking cheap? cheap doesn't work Use frontline and you will be able to live with out fleas and it is waterproof. but don't let your dog get wet for two days after you apply frontline. then the dog can get wet.
