This was recently asked in a group I've just joined that discusses cutting down one's grocery bill. However, since the members have all been working to cut donw their bills, I don't feel their answers are representative of the majority. So I'd like to know what others spend.

We spend about 200-300 a week for the 2 of us (including cleaning supplies and stuff). About 100 of that is necessities, the other 100-300 is spent on splurges like nice wine, cheese, etc

I probably spend at least 70 bucks a week, family of 6.
However that would just be running to the store nearest my house.
I go to WalMart every other week and spend anywhere from 125 to 200 but that includes household cleaning supplies and paper products along with groceries.

And when I say family of 6, it should be noted that my kids are 22-14 and pretty much most nights for dinner it is just my hubby, me and our youngest.

I usually buy ground beef in bulk through my husbands work.

$150 australian. for 2 adults 2 kids (9 and 3) a week
we by the raw ingredients not much prepared stuff and do cookie and cake baking with the kids on a sunday for lunches
and am organised we have a master dinner list that have every meal we like to eat .......each week before shopping we lok at it and decide what we would like to eat this week (6-7 meals/ dinners) we all ways have a roast on sunday as we are cooking lunch things anyway..........
so when we go shopping we make sure we have the spices and meat and things for those meals ........
at the end of the week we will most times still have a meal choice left over and goes on nexts weeks
try this its a great money saver no running down the shop for the few extra things which ends up costing a small fortune....
and then you are more likly to eat better and at the end of a hard day no stress about whats for dinner and you have more time to enjoy food...
Dont think that we dont have take away and go out or eat the same thing every week we have about 40 things on our list and adding things all the time and we look up cook books a try new things........
People need to learn how to cook and enjoy food even on the smallest budget and try not to WASTE

I live in Canada, ( not sure the price differences). A bag of white milk costs $4.65, and a loaf of bread is $2. I spend $200 a week. That includes cleaning supplies and toiletries. That`s for a family of four. Food is expensive in Canada.I just spent $5 on a bag of tomatoes. The poor really suffer in Canada..

I spend about $120 a week and it's just the two of us (OK 20 of that is probably for the dog)

I am a shop-the-edge-of-the-market kind of shoppers so it is mostly fresh fruit and veggies, meat, and dairy. I don't skimp on the good stuff and always buy 1-2 pieces of really good cheese. My husband is a big fan of steak and wants good cuts so that can up the price as well.
