During the nightime my dad drinks like 4 glasses of wine and is really weird and affectionate and he yells at me and my brother if we leave one scrap of anything on the ground. Then he'll cry if we yell at him. Once he got so mad he threw a scooter at my brother when he was 10! (We're now 13 and 16) He missed thank god But whenever i try and talk to him about it he denies he gets drunk and gets upset with us for accusing him of it and changed the subject and goes on drinking every night. I love him during the daytime but night time i hate him! What should i do?

If he is throwing things around and being abusive then you, or someone, need to call the police and have him locked up. This isn't as drastic as it might seem and you don't need to be afraid to take the necessary action which he is provoking. It has more to do with the safety and well being of you and your family. There is no reason why anyone in your family has to put up with being mistreated by his alcoholic tirades or his emotional melt downs. Putting up with him and letting him continue his alcoholic bullying will only get worse and will destroy your family. As a family all of you need to band together and show him that his tyrannical outrage isn't going to be tolerated. If he becomes too out of control then there may be no choice in the matter. This is a situation that can't be fooled around with or taken lightly. Once he starts being a danger to be around then someone needs to draw the line. He needs to spend some jail time and the courts should mandate him to seek counseling and get the help for him to obtain sobriety. Since he is your father this may be a tough call to make and may seem like it's a mean to do. Never the less since you do love him this will be the best thing for him and everyone concerned. Hating him won't solve anything and will only eat you up inside. The expression "tough love" applies here because he can't be allowed to continue on his downward spiral of his own self destruction. At your age this is a difficult situation for you to be in but, if he doesn't get some help soon, it will only get worse as you get older. In the meantime you probably should contact al-anon as well get help from your school counselors. There is plenty of help readily available so you don't have to deal with this on your own. You may be surprise at how many people are in the same situation, as this has become a vast network of people who are there for those in the same situation as you are. Also, you will be relieved in knowing that these people willl gladly help you and support you, as well as your family, and will be there every step of the way no matter how long it takes to guide you through this.

Seriously, it sounds bad.. but.. get a video camera and make a video of him.
Try not to let him see it while he's drunk, because he might get really upset. But if you can get some video of what he's doing and show it to him while he's sober, maybe he'll realize what he's doing to you guys.

I don't want to get you in trouble though! So if you DO decide to do this, be really seriously careful about it.

And he should believe you guys if you tell him during the day that he does these things to you when he's drunk. If he doesn't, I would have to think he's not right in the head even when he's not drunk, sorry to say.

Are their any adults you can talk to about this problem. How does your mother feel about the situation. Is there a family member that you can go to stay with. Like that others were saying, Contact alanon See if there is a way you can talk to your local authorities autonomous. I pray that you get out of that situation. There are children who get really hurt or lose their life over things like this. Concentrate on the best way to get help and get away from him.

Call an organization called " ALANON " in your area. Its support groups that have someone also that they love that has a drinking problem and they are in denial OR they are trying to quit. It helped me get my life back on track BUT we're divorced now and he still drinks alot. I chose NOT to be a part of his problem anymore and I really don't even miss him. It feels GREAT in fact. I know he can't say the same but he's moved on to another female and I feel bad for her but maybe it will work out. I pray anyway for a happy ending for him AND her.

Your dad has a lots of emotions suppressed, and he gets really stressed. He needs to talk out with someone. If this someone is not your mom, a psychiatrist, or a trusted friend of his.

But, don't go near him whenever he gets drunk. Only talk to him when he's sober.

There's not much you can do for him, if he isn't wanting to own up to his drinking problem. Drinking like that really sucks. it ruins alot with a family. I know because my dad was the same way with beer. I feel for you. Just do the best you can while you're under his roof.
