My walls are painted a light lime green, and we can't repaint, but I can add stencils or something else painted on. Any ideas? I'll take ideas for furniture, bedding, accessories, what to put on the walls, etc.. Anything. Thanks :-)

Sweeeeeeeeeeeet. A rock and roll bedroom. You are a girl after my own heart.

First I would showcase my music collection and sound system. Don't hide those jewel cases, in fact you could probably decorate with them. Get some narrow shelves and put them up, start displaying the CDs with the best cover art. Know how a bookstore has some books where you can only see the spine, and others are shelved the other way where you can see the whole front? Do that with your CD's.

You can also use your more worn out rock teeshirts, or start collecting them at shows or even Hot Topic (lots of bands there) or Target etc (they have retro shirts with doors, stones, hendrix, pink floyd etc on them) and you buy them in various sizes and colors...and then sew the waist and the sleeves shut, poke quilt batting in, the fluffy kind, not the flat kind...then sew the neck shut for rock and roll teeshirt throw pillows.

Depending on your rock and roll style, you might like hippie beads or industrial stuff like bolts or other metal pieces, etc. Whatever, string them up on fishing line, bead it on, tie a knot, go up a few inches and repeat, etc. and do this over and over and over, creating threads. Then attach the fishing lines to a piece of lathing or a spring loaded curtain rod...and put them in the windows and closet doorways or use for a room divider.

Album covers on the wall as a tribute to all the pioneers. Get vintage vinyl with beat up old album covers of all the oldies. Elvis, Chuck Berry, Sex Pistols, Beatles, Stones, Zep, etc. Go to amazon.com and check in with List Mania and look up what people think are the essential albums for any rock collection, etc...or make up your own. But dig deep and go old school...maybe read up on your fav artists' inspirations. Install a sleek design of plate rail at the same level as the top of your door way...this should match the tops of your windows, etc. and then you can display them up high, out of the way and it will border your whole room, if you don't have many, just spread them out, but I would shoot for at least several on each wall, and keep collecting.

You might be able to get a bunch of guitar picks and arrange them into the shape of a guitar with glue. Frame and hang. I don't know how much guitar picks cost. I'm thinking for this idea they would need to be pretty cheap. What you would do...is get a piece of art canvas that is prestretched. Draw on the outline of a guitar. Then fill it in by attaching the picks with hot glue, similar to a mosaic project. As a triangle shape, you could turn them around sometimes to fill in the empty space, and try to get them in a random design, nothing where lines start to emerge but keep the outline of the guitar very clean and crisp.

You can also use black lights in fluorescent bulbs or regular...as uplights on the floor. You wouldn't always have these on but it would look cool as a mood light.

For the bedding, you can go with guitar graphic, fire, beatles or other rock band (although I would not go heavy on the band stuff), ect. If you wanted to make it a little girlier, you could have music note bedding. Since you have so many posters, the walls are going to be the main area of interest in your room. Search through your stuff for, or maybe buy (on ebay, yard sale, ect.) more band posters or collectibles you can hang up on your wall.

You can find some good ideas on this site. One of my favorite ideas is to buy a 50 or 100 pack of cds and glue them together, shiny side up to create picture frames, lamp shades or even a mobile to hang from the ceiling.

My 14 year old daughter did the coolest thing in her room. She tore pictures out of her favorite magazines and tore them in different patterns. Then hung these torn pieces of "art" all over her wall. I wish you could see it. It is really creative!

Music notes on the wall.
Old 45 records glued on the wall, or made into a mobile.
