oxycodone,
the active ingredient in oxycontin,
mimics the natural neurotransmitters called endorphins,
which are essentially your brain's happy chemicals.
so they make you feel like pure heaven.
the next day when you are out of oxy's, you feel kinda down, like someting is missing, and that is because your brain remembers having a flood of endorphins, and now it is lacking them. you feel depressed and anxious and maybe even a little nauseous when you do not have oxycontin in your system.
so you take more.
and then you are addicted.

Why?
Well, OxyContin contains the active ingredient oxycodone, which is basically synthetic morphine. This is an opiate that gives the user a euphoric feeling that some people become addicted to and try to recapture the pleasurable feeling again and again by abusing the drug.

That addiction goes back to the ancient Greeks. They would have orgy's and then sleep in the arms of "Morpheus". Nothing has really changed, still the most addictive stuff on the planet, and harder to give up and to quit the addiction. Take care. SW FNP

i'm sure like most pain killers, it is physically addictive, so the body craves it after having it for a while. but mostly, it's mentally addictive if someone gets into the habit of taking it to make themselves feel better.

It's a sad truth that there are loads of people who are on these drugs that used them for surgery and ended up addicted to them.
