I live at teh doorms at Cal State Long Beach. Same goes for here too, meal plans with scanning the Id card. Here, there is a salad bar, taco/spaghetti/asian bar. We have a sandwich counter where someone makes them for us. And for the hot food, it is served by people so wew have to go back everytime we want more. We do get limited to how much we get at a time which is a hassle. For the most part, the food is okay but it's nothing I would jump out of bed for. It is all you can eat but you are not allowed to take any out. (Me, I sneak it out) as many do. I try to eat to my fill because you can't just go anytime you want to. The hours are Breakfast: 6am -9:30am Lunch: 10:30 am- 1:30pm and Dinner 3:30-7pm You can only go in once per meal so you are only allowed 3 meals a day. So if you get hungry in between meals, you can't eat unless you buy your own food and store it in your own doormroom. If you're lazy, then you don't eat like me... *sigh* But it is worth it. because you get food and you don't have to pay for it as you eat (your parents pay for it all at once) and you don't have to prepare it.

Most dorm room packages come with a meal plan. This means you go to whatever cafeteria you like, scan your ID card, and eat 1, 2 or all 3 meals/day for 5, 6 or 7 days a wekk. Yes, it's a buffet. All you can eat. But people are there to serve you... you don't just heap your own plate or anything. In the mornings, they will fry eggs or make omelets to order.
Persoanlly, I tend to feel like I have not gotten my money's worth at a buffet if I do not overeat. I know it's backwards thinking, so I generally avoid buffets.
