I think that for most of us, praying is thinking. It is meditation for me.

I know many people who say that they will pray and then they never do anything. This is true- however if you are really a believer, and wanting to be like Christ- when you say you will pray, you stop what you are doing and pray immediately for that person, and maybe even come to the conclusion that you may be the answer to someone's prayer. Also if I personally have to make a decision I will first pray, but if I am serious about doing something I will listen to God's voice and immediately obey- because prayer is not getting God to do our will, it is getting us ready to do His,

When I pray about a situation, I ask God to show me how I should handle it. I don't just blindly expect him to intervene. After all, God put all kinds of resources here at my disposal, why should anything about my situation change if I don't utilize those resources?

I brainstorm about practically every situation that I have, or that friends come to me with. I write down the problem, and how I (or whoever has the problem) would like things to be different. I pray about it, and then start trying to figure out how to get from Point A to Point B. Sometimes Point B changes. God helps me put things in perspective.

Some people probably use that phrase in that way but other people just mean that they want to think about it and pray and see if they can get some "word" or divine guidance from God about a situation. For the former type of people, the Bible has this to say to them.

James 2:14 What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, "Go in peace, be warmed and filled," without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? 17 So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.

To believers Praying = Power. Until YOU experience the power of prayer first hand. .don't say its pointless. You have no right to. Besides its better then complaining all the time about what Christians do. At least we DO something besides being depressed and try to argue every chance we get there isn't a God when there is no proof that God isn't there.

I personally believe that when a person says I'll pray about it, they really mean I will put much thought into it. In my opinion prayer is within the mind and heart and the only person listening and the only person that can fix the problem is you.

I don't know. If it's a situation where you're in trouble and somebody says, "I'll pray for you," I like to think it means they hope things work out for you.

If it's in reference to making a decision, "I'll pray about it," is about the same as, "I'll check my horoscope," or "I'll consult the I Ching." Or maybe it's the equivalent of, "I'll ask my mom, my best friend, and my boyfriend what THEY think."

It is exactly the same. They believe that they are doing something by praying for you when in reallity they are just pawning the resposibility off onto their god. When it doesnt work out for you they will say, "Sorry it must not be god's will but I tried." And they did nothing to help you with your situation.

It really depends on the person. For example, when I say it, I usually honor my commitment and actually pray about it.
