I am an american, born and raised. She is from a country in west africa where dogs are dirty, filthy, disease infested and not allowed in or NEAR anyone's home. I am trying to convince her that she is in america now and things are different here, our dogs are clean and loving. Help me out PLEASE... I want a dog soooooooooo bad...

You may want a dog badly, but it will take time before your wife can get past her cultural upbringing, and there's a chance that she may never be fond of dogs. Hopefully with time, she will grow more accustomed to the idea of having a dog as a pet.

Take her to a top of the line dog breeder that really keeps his kennel clean. A breeder can answer all your wife's questions and concerns. When she sees what a clean environment the dogs are raised in that might convince her that animals in our country are clean and not diseased infested.

I too, love dogs. Take her to a groomers salon and let her watch how dogs are groomed and how meticulous the groomers are. Also explain to her that there are medications you put on the dog to keep bugs away and that vets give them shots to keep away disease. Show her internet videos of people playing with their dogs. But if she does give in and let you get one, you must be responsive to her concerns by keeping your part of the deal up which is to clean up all of the dogs messes and keep the dog clean and well cared for. If you don't she'll freak out. Good luck and remember to keep the dog clean.

i think the best thing is to let her visit homes where people have indoor dogs, or comprimise and get a dog that will live out doors most of the time, i know i know cruel etc, but if you handle it right then your dog wont be an outcast just a dog who lives outside.

but i think takign her to homes where there is a small, well behaved clean dog will show her in time that its not that bad

also, reassure her that even though you arent giving up on wanting a dog your not going to do it until she feels better about it, then you can try barganing and giving her something you ordinarly wouldnt like jewlery

seriously the ladies love the diamonds

It seems your wife does not want to change her mind. What I sugest to do is to take her to a pet strore just to see the dogs, show her they're NOT dirty, but show it to her. Its easier to believe if you see it. See what the results are. Tell her calmly that you would like to try to have a dog and if she doesn't like it you would return it. If she doesn't want to listen to you or try it, ask her if she loves you and trusts you enough to just try it. Tell her you would appreciate it a lot. If none of this solutions work, try another animal, one that her culture accepts. Hope I helped!!!

first it depends on are you going to keep the dog for life and understand a dog is now part of the family. Take your mum to a few dog shelters a few times, she soon see there are some beautiful dogs out there. Then let her choose the dog.

Pretty easy.. file for divorce...

I'm kindda amazed actually I didnt realise that African women were used to having such power... all this time I've been led to believe they were more on the submissive side of the relationship.. I guess i learned something new..

I guess maybe you could use the argument that Xtian bible argument that women are filthy & dirty (check yer king James LOL I'm serious) and you let her in the house..

if I had to choose between a Wife and a dog I would choose a Wife.but if you have cable TV and you get Animal Planet you could see if she would watch some dog shows on Animal Planet and your Wife might see that dogs can be domesticated
