Is butter bad for you? Hmmm. let's research what butter is before condemning it.

Butter, is not only a rich source of vitamin A, it aids in its absorption. The body needs this vitamin for healthy eye function. E,K, and D are other fat soluble vitamins contained in this yummy fat.

Minerals also live in the globules of glorious greasiness. Selenium, a powerful oxidant, is found in larger quantities in butter than in either whole wheat or garlic. In addition, this substance supplies us ( well me since I eat it regularly ) with iodine for healthy thyroid function which abides well with the vitamin A which is also needed by the thyroid gland.

The colon uses butyric acid as an energy source. Hmmm, this fatty acid is a known anticarcinogen. The medium chain fatty acid, lauric acid, is a potent anti-microbial and anti-fungal substance found in our friend, butter. Yes folks, butter is our friend.Conjugated linoleic acid ( CLA ) is another anticarcinogenic which contents are increased in range fed cows as opposed to stall fed cows. Therefore free range butter is even more nutritious. If you do not want to consume any butter, good! That leaves more for me.

There is more information on the healthiness and healthfulness of butter, it's not just for breakfast anymore.

It isn't unhealthy. A healthy diet requires some fat like butter. Too much, though, is unhealthy. There are healthier fats, such as olive oil. But, butter is healthy in small amounts. Here is an excellent and brief explaination of the food pyramid and what each grouping of food nutrients means.

It isn't necessarily bad for you.

Butter does not directly increase cholesterol levels. 90% of the cholesterol in your body is manufactured by your liver. If you however, gorge yourself, your liver will become a "fatty liver" which is an early stage of disease...this is how the French make foie gras. They over feed a goose until its liver swells from overloading. As this overloading happens, it gets less-good as its regulation functions and usually cholesterol levels will go up.

The over reaction to "bad fats" started in the 40s and 50s as a result of kids not working all day in the farms, but instead sitting in school all day...but they were still eating the same foods as their parents who were burning 1000s of calories working on the farm...

So you have to put it all into context to properly understand it.

I recently published an article on the subject. You can read it here.

consuming excess butter in the diet is bad using it on occasion is not. butter is healthier than margarine as it does not contain trans fatty acid.

butter is not bad because of cholesterol it's because it's high in saturated fats which means it's high in the "bad carrier" of cholesterol which are low density lipoproteins (LDL).

cholesterol is not bad for the body it is the carrier of the cholesterol that makes the difference

Any animal fats are not good for you in large amounts. Some people go to margarine which is one molocule away from plastic. None of either would be better.

Supposedly it helps to raise your cholesterol levels-and that's not good for a lot of your internal organs (i.e. heart, blood vessels, etc.). High cholesterol levels tend to be the cause for strokes, heart disease, etc.

SATURATED FAT LEADS TO HARDENING OF THE ARTERIES COMBINED WITH HIGH CHOLESTEROL---------
leads to heartattack or stroke, which can also lead to cancer
and or other health threatening problems, and butter has more than enough of both.
