I am, and always was. My family is as racist as it gets, and I am marrying a black man. I have always been the "black" sheep. Always did what felt right for me, regardless of if they approved or not. Some family members are supportive of me, others have disowned me.

I was the rebel in my family when I was growing up. I constantly ran away and rebelled against all authority.
Once I married and had kids...my daughters became the rebels. The one finally outgrew it when she got married and had kids. The other one.....she is married with 3 kids and she is still a rebel. She writes hot checks, forges checks, and makes up her own checking account and checks. She is definitely headed to prison and I think this will be the best thing for her...at least it will give my 3 grand kids a chance at a good life with me and their grandpa. (they are 4, 5 and 7 yrs.) My family doesn't not even want her anywhere near them as she has stolen from them and disrespected everyone til they cannot ever forgive her.

I used to be the rebel and I guess I still am in a way. My views on things are sometimes different and I don't change my mind just because my family has a different view on the matter.

In terms of the rebel at the moment I'd say that was my little sister who's 15. Probably just because of the age.

I suppose I am, although I don't see it that way.
I'm pretty conservative, and my family wants me to "go with the flow" whether or not their desires fit with my morals, etc.
When I put my foot down and refuse to participate in their antics, I'm treated like the family outcast.
I'd say that's been a pretty negative impact on my family: my sister is married to someone who sneaked into the country illegally, and I refuse to hang out with them. It's put quite a strain on the family for the last 4 years because we disagree on whether it's "okay"...
I think it's all about control, and I am the black sheep of the family these days (though I'm not the one breaking the law!) because I won't be under the thumb of the Family Wishes.

I suspect that this kind of family rift is, sadly, pretty common...

Yes. Well becuase I live bigger and more educated and open minded. THEY see it as being the rebel becuase they're tiny minds think that I'm the one who is wrong. Sounds classic. I'm often seen as the black sheep. They try to "take a stronger hand against me" becuase they don't like my mom (that I stopped living with when I was 2). They're all kind of in there own little world and don't see patterns of abuse (that I was victim of) and naturally I rebelled, but it was still all my fault... or so they think... So yah I'm the "rebel"- meaning I don't have anything to do w/ them anymore :-)

No, some may say I am the suck up b/c I am the baby of the family, but I am not my mom and I are just close. To tell you the truth I wish I was more of a rebel.

I am not. My brother is.

The majority of the time my brother has ONLY been a negative impact on my life. The list is so long on the ways he has been a terrible person, lets just say I'm lucky I'm alive. He has tried to kill me on more than one occasion. I bare physical scars as well as mental due to him.

He's a better person now....but only after 7 years in prison and TONS of drug, alcohol, mental therapy.

I am the rebel in my house. it impacts in both ways. the thing that separates me and makes me a rebel is that I like guy sports like football and my parents think I should like tennis. I like electric guitar mom thinks i should play violin. Even though I play fotball (i am on my schools football team) my parents tell me to get more into tennis. My dad loves the fact that i play electric guitar but my mom well she is good with it but preffers me to play piano or as i said violin. this has caused one argument between me and my parents which is that i should quit the football team but I still luv my parents!!!

I used to be. It definitely was negative back then. Everything is much better now. We used to have really bad arguments. The worse was when we didn't see eye to eye on my teen pregnancy. Once I proved them wrong, and showed them I was a good mother and would do whatever it took to support my child both emotionally, physically, and financially they finally accepted it.
