There is a difference between Ushers and groomsmen. Groomsmen stand with the Groom and escort the brides maid( you will need to have an even number of bridesmaids to groomsmen) Ushers escort the guess into the cermony and assist with gifts, sigining the guestbooks etc....

They are different. Ushers are helping your guest get in the church, get seated. They are also the one who are walking the mother of the bride down the aisle or any family member you have walking down the aisle. Groomen are there to support the groom. How if you do not have male ushers then the groommen will walk the other family members down the aisle.

The ushers greet the guest at the door and seat them on the proper side, whether the brides or the grooms guest.

The groomsmen are part of the wedding party, they stand behind the groom and the best man.

Ushers are people you appoint to help show people to their seats in church (usually heard muttering "friend of the bride? friend of the groom?).
Groomsmen are the fellas who stand up beside the groom, along with the Best Man.
People sometimes mistakenly call groomsmen ushers. Don't know why...
