when ppl ask me who she is, i just say "oH she's my mother in law" then ppl assume im already married, and i'm not.

She is only your mother-in-law once your married,the best way to refer 2 her is my partners mum. It is ok 2 call her your mother in law b4 your married (i used to with my now mum in law) as long as u dont mind people assuming that your married.

When you use the term, "mother in law", people are always going to assume you are married because that's what it means. Can you just introduce her as your boyfriend / significant other's mother? That would eliminate the confusion.

She is not your Mother-in-law. IN-LAW specifies a legal contact involved-in other words married.
