you know i started to answer this question and i found myself stumped,
im a groomer, and i think the reason people come to me is im talented style wise, and im not tooting my horn, but the main reason is that i honestly love my clients dogs like they were mine

i can tell you there are things about the dogs that i know even the owners dont, and i think they get that feeling from me

so, walk into the shop with your dog and notice how they respond to her

they should look at her and smile, ask some questions
shots, age, etc, and make some kinda nice comment about her

if they just tell you the price and start in on what you want done then you are at the wrong salon

i find it very upsetting that there are groomers out there who hit dogs, leave them in kennels with heated dryers
(HEATED KENNEL DRYERS ARE A HUGE NO NO)
and i find it more upsetting that there are dog groomers who dont like dogs, i mean would you eat at a resturaunt where the chef hated to cook???

I live in Frisco, Texas and I take my Cocker Spaniel to our local Petsmart. I stick to the same lady who has been grooming her since she was little so I have built up some trust with her.
