Is there a way in which I must dress?

Make sure you take your shoes off before you go in, wear plain clothes, nothing dressy or flashy, and be clean.

Best advice is to dress conservatively, sit in the back of the section that corresponds to your gender, and try to follow along. I have attended a Shi'ite prayer service before, and as a female, I had to cover my head with a scarf, wear long sleeves, long pants, and dark stockings, and pray on the women's side of the mosque. There is a certain pattern followed of kneeling, standing, bowing and prostration, so just follow the lead of the people around you. If you are a little off on your timing, no one will notice. It is a very moving experience!

So try calling the local mosque, and talk to whatever they call thier minister, and say it just like you said it here....that's great that you want to increase your understanding of other religions, and considering what a bad rap the Muslims have since 9/11, I would think they would welcome a chance to increase the understanding of outsiders. If the closest Mosque has a problem with it, try another one, maybe the next one would be more progressive. Good for you!

Go to the mosque and talk to the person/people that organize the service. I'm sure they would be more than happy to help you out.

Every mosque I have been to, I have been met with anger. Even after I quoted the Koran, I found only one man who would greet me. My suggestion would be make friends with a muslim man who is respected in the mosque and allow him to introduce you. And remember to take your shoes off when you enter.

There is no special way to dress--just wear a normal shirt and pants. And dont worry about it being awkward I'm sure everyone will be very welcoming. We aren't really that scary :P

Just dress modestly, refraining from tight-fitting clothes or anything with wording or patterns that are distracting... when you talk to someone there I'm sure you'll find exactly how friendly they can be and helpful... you'll be welcomed like crazy. I remember my experience... everyone was warm and friendly and very helpful.

Hey Gus. There is nothing wrong with 'visiting' a mosque. I would suggest you do research on its beliefs before you go and attend any kind of service of any faith. As a Christian I would not have a problem going to visit but if you are seeking to join a religion. I suggest you email me. ;)
