Relationships don't take that much struggle and stress for them to work, if they are meant to work, the work out smoothly, and sometimes they hit a few rough patches, but they're not this overwhelming if they are meant to be.
If you've spent more time being unhappy than being happy in it, then it is time for you to call it a day. That's how I figure mine out.

If you find yourself happier when you're away from that person than you are when you're with that person, it's time
You are right, relationships take work, but when you're working all the time to make the relationship a good one, then it's not really worth being in the relationship. Problems and issue come up each and every day in all areas of life, but relationships shouldn't be all work to make it a good one.
Again, me personally know it's time to end a relationship when I'm happier when I'm away from that person than I am when I'm with that person....
Not a doctor, but just giving you my 3 cents

I struggled with that for 5 years.
If you are the only one trying to "make it work", then it's a good time to call it quits.
If you are not happy.
If the bad times outweigh the good times.
If it's abusive, mentally or physically.
And then always ask yourself, "is this worth it?"
hope that helps. I said yes to all of those and still tried to make it work. Lets just say it didn't and I am a lot better off because of it.

If it's more work than play, then it's time to end it.

go with your heart if it tells you the person your with is worth it, that you love them, and would regret giving up on them.. then work at it.. after all love sometimes needs time to grow but sometimes things are too broken to fix and even though you might love them.. it wont be enough anymore. x

When you've reached a problem that you can't fix. Or you hate each other and it's just a dead end relationship and you both hate each other.
