Do you have a metal strainer? Put that into the pan, with the water low enough not to get into it.

Add water enough to cover bottom of the pan this will not cover vegetables just prevent them from sticking.

add a dash of salt bring to "boil" and you are set to go.

As far as colander goes does not matter if lid does not cover pot.

You can put the veggies inside cover with a lid and the steam from pot below will still cook the veggies.

Keep on eye on the time should come to boil and cook for only a few moments. Veggies should be crisp and keep their colour.

Bon Apetit.

use a plate large enough to cover the top of the collinder. Remember that the plate will get very hot so watch out for burns.

Metal steamers or bamboo ones are not expensive, so invest in one because steamed veges are the nicest way to go.

take alluminum foil and fold it back and forth like a fan about 1/2 inch for each fold -open gently & place it in the bottom of the pot so that it makes little ridges up from the bottom of the pot - then add you veggies lightly so the foil holds them up off the bottom of the pot - just make sure when you add the water t stays below the height of the foil!!!

You'll need to either purchase a double boiler with a cover or one of those steamers made of wood (bamboo) used in a wok.

you can also 'steam' veggies by placing them in a zip lock with a table spoon of water/lemon juice and microwave for a few minutes

Put a little water in a big pot and put the veggies in a bowl and put it inside the pot.
