Join AFTRA? requires $ and citizenship. Why / why not join?

American Federation of Television and Radio artists .... What are the benefits and are one's job opps upped by joining or does it just depend on the indvidual ? What do agents and casting directors think of AFTRA membership? DOes it hel p their clients gain access to auditions and work opportunitities or no?

If you are in NYC or L.A. you can work on the soap opera that are taped in those cities.

I obtained my SAG (Screen Actors Guild) card after booking a speaking role on one of the soaps.
