Of course not it proved the importance of the Old Testament.
Jesus taught not one jot or tittle had passed away form the law, The law has not changed but those who have accepted the atonement have by faith been changed.

Christ's crucifixion was foreshadowed throughout the Old Testament. The passover ceremony is one example. Another example is the 22nd psalm, in which David accurately and in detail prophesies the crucifixion, right down to the soldiers gambling for Jesus' clothes. It is truly said that the ENTIRE Bible is the story of Jesus, not just the New Testament.

I dont believe it lessened the importance, per say, because the Old Testament still speaks to me when my pastor or our Christian School's principal speaks on a text from there....there are still many lessons to be learned from the Old Testament...what would any child's Biblical education be without Noah's Ark or the Creation story? It did, however, cancel out the need to follow many of the laws in the late chapters of Exodus, and Leviticus, Numbers, and Deutoronomy. These books are the Pentateuch, the Law of the Jewish culture. If you are a Christian who believes in the raising of Jesus and in spiritual redemption through Jesus as he perfect sacrifice, then you should also realize that He took the place of many laws. We no longer need to sacrifice a lamb once a year to pay for our sins, because Jesus took that place. We no longer need to go to the priests and pharisees because Jesus also took place as the Ultimate High Priest and is the go-between for us and God. We can pray in the name of Jesus, and by His sinless death, we are able to speak to God. So, some parts of the Old Testament are no longer applicable, but others still truly are.

No, it did not lessen the importance of the old testament; instead, it fulfilled many, many prophecies.
The death of Jesus brought a new atonement for sins and a new covenant.
But every word of the Bible is very important. It gives us history of all events since creation.

Lessen it's importance? No. There are many lessons to be learned by reading the Old Testament and Jesus himself quoted from the OT in his teachings. However, with his death Jesus "fulfilled" the law.. It was "nailed to his torture stake" as the Apostle Paul put it. (Colossians 2:13-17)

I hope that helps.

no, it heightened it. The old testament is a prophecy to what is supposed to happen in the New Testament. In the book of Isiah and Psalms it tells of many accounts that happened in the new testament books such as Mark and Luke.....Such as the propechy where Jesus rode in on the colt of a donkey. That account can be found in both testaments. The cruxifiction proved that the bible was true and that the old testament prepared a way for Christ

No, because His Crucifixion paid the prize for the transgressions of the Old Testament Commandments - so that whoever believed in His death and Ressurection will be given life (Eternal Life) - which no other False Religions of this world can even promise you (because all of them are of Satan the trickster). Get smart and turn away from Satan to the only true Creator God the owner of His creation, and also the only Saviour for us because He created all of us.

Jesus death fulfilled the law and the prophets. The whole bible is about Jesus and the Almighty God, Jehovah. From the very first book, Genesis, Jesus was prophesied to crush satan in the head, a deathblow.

When teaching God's word the whole bible must be used. Jesus quoted the scriptures. All scripture is inspired of God and beneficial for teaching.

No, the Old Testament is the foundation of Christianity. I once heard a pastor say, "Its like a guy going outside and destroying the foundation of his apartment, because he thought it was useless. When asked, "why are you doing that, don't you know it will destroy the building". He said, Oh, it doesn't matter I live on the 8th floor." Foundations are important.

It does not LESSEN the importance of the OT; it fulfills it. 100% of the prophecy of the OT was fulfilled. The line of descendants that led to Jesus was just the right line of people. The history of man's need for redemption is set out in the OT and fulfilled in Christ.
