Dogs have very finely tuned senses- much better than humans. They can hear us coming a mile off! :)

Your dog isn't necessarily telepathic. It just has a very good internal clock, sense of smell, and hearing. If you come home a particular time of day it won't take your pets long to figure it out roughly the time of day and 'predict' it. If you come home at random times each day than most likely your dogs hear your voice in the hallway or most likely, smell you.

It's fun to think so is'nt it?
But in all reality they've just gotten into the routine.
Just because they can't read a clock does'nt mean they have no sense of time.Whether you're aware of it or not certain things happen at around the same time every day that they either see, hear or smell and that's how they judge time.
You leave.Shortly after that one of your neighbors leaves. Then another. The kids start walking past making noise on their way to school or the school bus drives by.The mailman comes. Then it all starts going in reverse and here you are pulling in the driveway and your dogs world is once again complete.

when my partner goes out one of our two dogs always seems to jump the window about 5 mins before my partner comes back and thats the only time he does it and its not any routine hes in of going out as he doesnt work its just staggered times he goes out through the day and its never the same sort of times hes out either sometimes its 15 mins other times its 3 hours. then both our dogs know when we are going out we dont have to say a word and the dogs dont see us get ready because they have a room of their own which we shut the door on but as we are getting ready both dogs yap and sort of howl to come out with us. so i believe that dogs that are well looked after and close to their owners do have a sort of telepathic bond

I don't know why they are that way, but it seems all dogs are. Of course they also get used to the time of day when you are supposed to be home. They become nervous if you are not there when you are supposed to be.

I also have a horse that knows she sees me usually once a week and if I can't get to her where she is boarded she let's me know I'm not on the right schedule, kind of like where the heck have you been sort of thing.

Both My goldens know when my husband is coming home long before I do. They sit by the back garage door and just wait for him to walk thru. I swear they can hear his car a mile away!

Dogs have powerful senses of smell, different areas have different smells and dog can distinguish those smells and that is how they know when they are getting near to home

I believe that all animals not just dogs have this power, it is a sence we lost years ago. My dog is sat there with my slipper in his mouth when I walk through the door.
