It is possible. However, in order to work for your own company, you must have an H-1b specific to this employment. You can hold more than one H-1bs and often many people do when they work part time for two companies. There is nothing that prohibits an H-1b from having an H-1b for his/her own company. However, you will not be able to have your own company petition for your green card in the future.

no, the H-1B is employment specific to the company which originally petitioned for the H-1B. IF the person left to open their own company, a new and difference visa would be required, such as an E or E2 visa.

No, the H-1B must be for employment, but not self-employment. I've heard of people starting side businesses, but keeping their main occupation as the one on their H-1B petition. I really wouldn't recommend this, especially if you're planning to apply for Permanent Residency. This is a gray area (charcoal gray) and it will probably cause a lot of problems. Either way, it is definitely not allowed for your only job to be self employed.

NO. To attempt to form his own company would cause him to be in violation of his own visa.
