Weird problem...one morning I crank up my Honda Passport and get no sound at all from my car stereo. I have a Kenwood radio and Pioneer speakers (6.5" door and 4" rear). I thought it could be the radio itself, but after taking it out of the dash and putting an old JVC in it didn't change anything. Still, no sound. I checked a 3rd in dash...nothing. The in-dash radio(s) change stations, spin CDs, and do everything they should, but the speakers are dead. What could possibly be the problem? I checked all of the fuses and all seem to be in order. Please help!!!!!!

Hello... what has happened is that one of the speakers is grounded out. In other words, the terminal is touching the metal in the door, or rear panels. Cut each speaker wire from behind the radio while it is playing, one at a time and when you cut the right one, that will tell you what speaker it is, then go to it and fix it. If the speakers are in the doors, then that is probably the first ones to cut because they take more abuse with the door opening and closing. The radio completely shuts down when this happens to protect itself from burning out. Hope this helped. Good luck and live loud!!

This is almost always caused by a shorted speaker wire. The easiest way to find it is with a continuity tester or a multimeter with continuity function. Test each of the speaker leads behind the radio for continuity with chassis ground. If you don't find a short this way, check the resistance between the positive and negative of each speaker wire pair; one of the speakers may have a shorted voice coil. You should read between 3 and 4 ohms on each wire pair.

If you ran new wire to your speakers, one of the wires may be shorted somewhere; if the speakers are connected to stock wires, check the connections at each speaker. One of the terminals may have come loose and shorted against a metal surface.

A problem with one speaker can cause the head unit's internal amp to shut off, resulting in no sound to any speaker.
