Having trouble finding out the cost and locations of campsites in Ireland. Was wondering if any of you have any experience of either of these things. Cheers

Hello Sophie,
about the best way you are going to obtain information on camping and where the sites and what the charges are, is to tell you to seek assistance from Bord Failte', which is The Irish Tourist Board, they will have a book full of safe places to pitch a tent and all that goes with it such as toilet and shower facilities, local shopping and entertainment facilities too. most Farmers will refuse to allow you access to their land simply because of itinerant travellers, thesae are like irish gypsies, that would be dishonourable to the farmer, and maybe even commit crimes against the farmer and his property, so contact the Irish Tourist Board, and be prepared to pay for the safety of knowing that you are really going to be safer for your choice of using their guidelines, cost? expect to pay about 5 to 10 euro's per night, and expect to have some facilities available to you for that charge. A farm like ours has been known in the past to allow tourists to stay over night, if they were travelling by car, so at least my uncle would have their identity and car registration, and he never charged anybody anything, as they always treated him fairly, unfortunately, he won't have campers anymore due to having stuff stolen from the outbuildings, including A HORSE. never did get that back, OH, and no, its name wasn't Shergar. anyway, enjoy your camping holiday, and do use the local funspots wherever you go, good luck, and have fun,.Galway and Clare, are in my estimation your best Counties for Camping...........Tony M...............

I don't know that Ireland has that many official camping sites. You might have luck getting permission from a local farmer. However there can be problems with travellers (a kind of Irish gypsy) setting up camp and making a mess so that may be why it is not as common. That and the weather.

The best places to camp in Ireland would be at
Clonea- Waterford
Courttown - Wexford
Anywhere you can find in West Cork and Kerry (w)
Salthill- Galway (w)
West Coast Donegal (w)

These are all great places ,and it is relativly cheap too ,ranging for the size of your tent, but an average of about 10euro a night. Each place above with (w) beside it is on the west coast ,and has harsher weather.
But ive camped loads of times, great fun
