Yep, but it happens no matter what. People like to lump people together - all christians do this, all atheists are that, etc. It's easier than recognizing individuals.

Absolutely. Just take a look at this area of the boards, all the stereotyping that professed christians are doing of muslims. How do you think that makes the peaceful muslim feel? Not all muslims are terrorists. Lets not forget that christianity in its various forms was responsible for some pretty attrocious behavior as well (just to name a couple, the Inquisition, the Crusades).
And every religion has at one time or another done some pretty nasty things in the name of their god. Judge not, lest ye be judged.
Do I like being judged by my religion? No. But quite often I get the comment "oh, you're the first [x] I've ever really talked to" and you get the impression they finally realize that my religious group isn't so weird or different after all, that we are just normal humans who happen to have slighly different beliefs.

Big Time. I am Roman Catholic . I am quite sick of people telling us we believe in things that we do not, like saying we pray to statues or never use the Bible. Many people also assume we are all of European descent and some people even say our Church is a racist organization, therefore truly racially profiling. I have been in Masses with people of every race and I myself am only partly white. At the Church I attend there are Americans , Congolese, Vietnamese, Sudanese, people from Guam, Latin Americans, and people whose race i do not even know. In fact I would not be surprised to see a Black, South American. or Asian Pope in the near future. Thank you for pointing out the flaw in this type of stereotypical thinking. All people are many things and if we speak to each other rather than talk about each other we are likely to learn that we all have more things in common than we ever imagined. Peace be with you

What do you think of of as racist? If a conservative would not consider Obama does that make a guy or woman racist? look on the way Liberals think of. you are able to consider them, yet no longer everybody does. i'm exceedingly conservative and that i'm a Christian. that would not make me racist. That makes me a guy or woman who might somewhat have somebody in workplace that holds the comparable form of values (no longer inevitably the comparable beleifs) as I do. such distinctive say that Conservatives are crammed with hate. What approximately Liberals hating conservatives? this is hate. what's the version there? As a school student in a Liberal Arts college, all I hear well-known is how terrible conservative Christians are. that rather hurts, because of the fact we will not agree on each and every thing yet all of us desire what's maximum suitable for this u . s ., we merely have distinctive perspectives on what that is. do no longer tell me that i'm racist and hate-crammed because of the fact I disagree and that i voice my disagreements in u . s . that values freedom.

I know what you mean, even in the answers here, people assume that you are either jesusian, agnostic, or athiest, maybe "pagan" as well, but there are other options, and many are not all that exotic.. And frankly, in the Athiest vs. Christian debate, both sides forget there are other options..

Yeah. There are always people in a faith that give others a bad name, unfortunately, us people who haven't done anything bad we are usually clumped w/ said people.

No, not really. Only when they use vulger language when talking about Jesus or God. They can say what they want about me, religious leaders, etc. I don't mind. If I did I wouldn't hang out here.

Well, if you were an atheist and people always told you that you were going to hell, it shouldn't have bothered you much, since atheists do not believe there is a hell.
And if you believe in God but that's it, then I'm a little confused as to what that makes you. An agnostic, perhaps? Well, not exactly....I'm not really sure.
