It's Pretty simple....80% of the population is within 100 Miles of the US border.

At least 80% of Canada's population lives in urban areas, major cities like Toronto, Montreal, Calgary and Vancouver - while the rest live in small towns in rural areas. Most cities and towns in Canada are found in the southern parts close to the US border. The main reason is because the climate tends to be warmer and because the US is our biggest trading partner it helps our economy (transportation of goods, tourism, etc).
