I was wondering when my newborn baby kittens will go potty on their own without their mamas help and when they will be able to train to use a litter box. They are 2 weeks old now I know it isnt anytime soon because they are still so tiny and can hardly even walk but I was curious as to when it will happen?

Just like human babies, they all have different rates of learning so it depends on the kitties. I have had some who followed Mom to the litter box as soon as they could walk, others have made it to 7 weeks and still couldn't master it. It depends on Mom too and how good she is at teaching them, but it should start somewhere around the 3 week mark.

My kittens usually start using the litter box at about five weeks old. For some kittens its sooner, some later. It really depends on the mother cat and how attentive she is. For sure by the time they are weaned, which she will start to do at five or so weeks, sometimes less.. It generally starts when they are active to the point of being annoying! That is when they can climb in the litter box on their own. The mamma cat will be all the training they should need, though you may want to put them in the litter box every once in awhile, just to get them used to it. Also, kittens seem to prefer the sandy type of litter. Good luck, and have fun with them while they are babies!

I have to go with 4-5 weeks as well. I've adopted a few kittens in the past from shelters (no mom around) and both started using a litter box from day 1.

We potty trained kittens that were probably 4 weeks old. After they eat the mother licks their bottoms to stimulate them to move their bowels. Since our kittens were found abandoned, we simply took a warm slightly dampened washcloth and wipe their bottoms to encourage the movement and then placed them in the litter box. After they finished their business we took their paw and scratched the litter with it. From that day on they knew how to use the litter box.

Around 4 weeks.
Do you realize that for every 1 person born, there are 7 puppies and kittens
born? At best, 1 will find a forever home.
And don't forget, that every "Free-to-good-home" litter takes homes away
from animals already at the shelter.

STOP letting your pets; or your friends, relatives or co-workers pets
contribute to the problem.
If you love animals, it is NOT ENOUGH to merely say "My pets are fixed".
Vow to educate and enable others to fix their pets too.
Spaying just 1 female dog or cat, will prevent 6 others from ending up in a
shelter the following year.
Please be part of the solution, NOT the problem!
Thank you. ^..^

I believe around 5 weeks old is when they'll figure out the litter box.

Should start between 4 - 6 weeks, when they are able to get around better. Momma will show them how to use the box.

I BELIEVE IN ABOUT THREE MORE WEEKS. HOWEVER IN THE MEANTIME I WOULD KEEP THEM IN AN AREA THAT INCLUDES THE LITTER BOX. SO THEY DONT PICK UP BAD HABITS OF POTTYING ON BEDS, SOFAS, ETC.
