Food?

I believe it is not food as God never called it food.

I am having a debate over Kosher and Non- Kosher meats. The Moses Dietary laws lay out what can and cannot be eaten. And what you can eat, how to kill and prepare it.

I am a Christian and believe it is not essential to eat kosher meats any more but I still believe and do not eat pork as pig was never " Food."

Can someone please clarify this??

Thanks!

Sure, here's what Paul said:

"I know, and am persuaded in the Lord Jesus, that nothing is unclean of itself; except to him who reckons anything to be unclean, to that man it is unclean. For if on account of meat thy brother is grieved, thou walkest no longer according to love. Destroy not him with thy meat for whom Christ has died. Let not then your good be evil spoken of"

Here's the thing about pork. During Moses time, pigs were indeed scavengers (they still are really). A pig will eat anything, including fecal matter. On top of that, they don't have the digestive system that other animals do and they don't properly digest the food. So it turns to fat on them, making eating pig the same as eating the fecal matter itself. Gross huh?

But in this day and age, pigs are grainfed, not slopfed. So they are fairly safe to eat, but if you feel it's not food, DON'T EAT IT!!!! lol

Hope that helps :)

Is shrimp or pork bad to eat?

First of all they are scavengers. If you go back in the Old Testament; God distinguished what foods we should eat and which one's we shouldn't. Now if you decide too; that's your choice, but some groups don't because it's an abomination to eat anything unclean. Isn't our body the temple of God as stated in 1Cor.3:18-19? We supposed to take care of our body and be in good health (3John 1:2).
Shrimp are made to eat the garbage under the sea floor; they carry diseases too. The pig is a scavenger too; it eats the slop on the earth and if you looked under a microscope of cooked ham; you will find worms in it. You really want tricinosis and diseases and things in your body?

** TEXTS THAT INVOLVE THE CLEAN AND UNCLEAN MEATS:
GEN.18:7-8; LEV.11; 20:25; DEUT.14; ISAIAH 66:17; EZEK.22:26; DAN.1:8; MATT.3:4; LUKE 24:41-43; ACTS 10:10-14; 1COR.3:16-17; 9:27; 2COR.6:17; AND REV.21:8.
----IF THE CLEAN AND UNCLEAN MEATS WEREN'T VALID FOR TODAY; THEN WHY OH WHY WOULD THE LORD PLEAD WITH FLESH NOT TO EAT UNCLEAN MEAT--(ISAIAH 66:15-17). ALSO NOTICE DEUT.14:4 "SHALT NOT EAT ANY ABOMINABLE THING" AND REV.21:8 "...THE ABOMINABLE SHALL HAVE THEIR PART IN THE LAKE WHICH BURNETH WITH FIRE AND BRIMSTONE: WHICH IS THE SECOND DEATH."

This is very easy to clarify. I don't know exactly what you mean by "food", but let me tell you this: if you were starving and you had the choice of eating a pork roast or dying, chances are you'd eat the pork roast and survive. In the instance that I describe the pork would offer the necessary sustenance for you to survive, and therefore qualifies as food.

Jesus said that it is not what goes in your mouth but what comes out that is unclean. if you believe that Jesus died for your sin then there is no food that is bad (a sin) to eat . there where reasons not to eat pork- not because it is a fat food- they could not cook it to make the worms go away. the pig doesn't have vains just arteries so it's blood is dirty and if you think about it the people back then didn't have away to cook their food properly. so it really doesn't matter as far as is it clean or not. Because Jesus already said it didn't matter

I'm not Jewish or Christian, but I do know that the Jewish follow the Torah and aren't allowed to eat pork, so I don't see why the Christians would think that they can eat pork because the Torah is part of their bible also...So what some of you people are saying is that in the bible it first says don't eat pork, then later it changes it's mind and it's okay to eat pork...Contradiction!

EDIT: SilverBirch, they sell laundry detergent in the supermarket...doesn't mean we are supposed to eat it.

EDIT: John n, people that have been stranded on the top of snow covered mountains have been known to eat people that died with them on the trip...Does that make it okay to eat people?

Peter's vision in the Christian NT clearly tells us now that any food blessed by God is clean. We are no longer under Mosaic Law.

Read the Book of ACTS chapter 10, verses 9 through16.

If you're not Jewish, than there's no reason whatsoever not to eat pork.
My Bible class was just learning about this. The Bible, speaking to the Jews, ephasizes that pigs are unclean "for YOU". That is, it's unclean for Jews, but a righteous gentile can go ahead and eat whatever he/she wants.

You can eat anything you want. There is no dietary code. There are things you should eat to stay healthy but as a "sin" or making you ritually unclean it no longer has an bearing.
