I have a recipe for vanilla ice cream and I really wanted to try it.

The problem I have is i went to buy some vanilla pods and they were $9.50 for 2!

I could have brought 2 tubs of Peters Vanilla ice cream on special for that price!

Where can I buy them cheaper than Coles in Australia?

Political unrest and commercial reliance on pure vanilla increased demand and raised the prices worldwide. Vanilla cultivation is also the most labor-intensive of all food crops. Each orchid stalk can take a two to three years to produce its first flower then each flower needs to be hand-pollinated. Then the beans are branded (to prevent theft), harvested, cured and air-dried for up to one month.

Vanilla cultivation is also dangerous business. Because this valuable crop is cultivated in impoverished countries, looting, theft and violence are common.

You can order online at www.vanilla.com.
