About 15 or 20 years ago, my ex-husband went through about 2 weeks of boot camp and it was later determined that he had 'flat feet' and was honorably discharged. Service in the Army, particularly the infantry troops require frequent marching and standing for long periods of time If you have been 'diagnosed 'with flat feet by "the Army" these activities can be painful/unbearable over time. Additionally, this could lead to foot injuries. I have also heard that it depends upon the branch in which you apply. These days I am sure there is such a need for servicemen, they are probably accepting any and everybody however, I hope this not the case. At any rate, good, qualified servicepeople are needed and the nation does not want any one to be unduly injured or hurt. Be sure to ask before you sign your name on the dotted line - the initial physicians probably won't check for 'flat-footed' intakes...

You can, depending on the severity of it you may need a waiver. Be cautious of what MOS you go into. My hubby is in the Infantry and flat footed. He is currently in a cast from a MAJOR foot reconstructive surgery from damage due to the combination of long road marches and his flat feet. He suffered pain for over 4 years before getting the surgery (due to scheduling conflicts with deployments). I would recommend a job that is not so demanding on your ability to "hump" long distances and carry heavy weight.

When my father went in back in '63 he had flat feet. He was disqualified from being an infantryman, and wound up in aviation instead.

Yes....you will probably need to get a medical waiver. Not a big deal though.
