Religion intensifies the common fear of death by postulating an afterlife that it cannot prove to exist, and proceeds to provide the solution. One must follow the religion for the rest of ones life and of course give copious amounts of time and money to the religion all the while.

It's an extortion racket of phenomenal proportions.

The truth will last forever. By the way preachers don't sell Bibles or make money from the sales of bibles. This money goes to the publishing companies just like any other book.

Well that is an excellent question. There are very few books or pieces of literature which are so widely read for such and extraordinarily long period of time.
While I do not know how long the Septuagint has been read, the books collectively known as the Old Testament or Torah were read for centuries before Christ.
He was well versed in it.
HM-MM Wonder why this is? I believe it is because it is what God says it is. His word.

There is a lot of excellent information in the bible that changes lives. If it was just a money-making scheme, it would have been thwarted years ago and tossed out like a used diaper. It is not just a money making scheme.

The more a person reads it, the more they understand its messages and the more they learn from it. You should also not be discouraged if you don’t get something right away; sort of like a text book that you have to re-read when you don’t understand a homework problem. If you stick it out, the understanding of the problem will come to you; sometimes with the guidance of a teacher ;)

Truth

The Bible is God's word. The fact that humans have a history of using it for their own enrichment and benefit does not take away from that, any more than say your son using your good name to scam people takes away from the fact that you tried to raise him to be a decent human being.

Why has it lasted so long, because as God's message for humanity he protected it. Think about the history of people's efforts to eliminate it, or at least keep it from the masses, over the centuries. People have been persecuted, some died, because they wanted to translate it into the common language of the people. William Tyndale, a 16th Century catholic priest, comes to mind.

Up until 1860, it was an attempt to explain the world, and life. Also to control people. Since the diversity of life has been explained and we have effective laws, it's largely redundant (this is obvious by its total absence in non-Xian schools.)

It's lasted so long because in the cultures it's in, there were enormous efforts to spread the word by the church. Money was a big part, but also the control of land (e.g. there was no money initially in S.A., but the church was certainly there.) And it takes time to make the paradigm shift to science, but it's obviously happening - look at the EweKay and Europe.

God only knows that answer

After all the evil it has created

Maybe so good would shine through the words of confusion.

So people can search their own truths and find the answers they need.

Because it embodies some truth despite all the tinkering through the ages.

Because its truth.

First of all its not 1 book, its 66 books all under one cover, which as never been done before.

Besides the fact that there is irrefutable evidence that supports the history behind it, the bible makes complete sense.

-Daniel

P.S if you want to know why it makes sense, and the truth thats in it pm me and ill show you.
