It was suggested by my doctor just last week to rehydrate myself. It worked...I can tell by the change in my tongue...went from white to pink in a few days. I think it has to do with electrolytes.

It contains electrolytes that indeed replenish your electrolytes, which are important if you have been sweating a lot or not drinking enough liquids lately, or have been sick and not eating well.

There is sugar in gatorade, which does refuel people by restoring their sugar level that has dropped by excercise.

It replenishes the electrolytes in your system as well as replaces the sodium lost during exercise, play, etc. So yes, it re hydrates you and does a decent job of it too.
