my society finch laid eggs about 2 weeks ago but the eggs dont seem to be hatching. i read it takes about 13 days for incubatino before they hatch. but my eggs havent hatched yet. is it because the eggs arent fertilized? or should i just wait a couplr mroe days?

to the fourth answer:
but if you take the eggs away from the mother while she's incubating them, doesnt that kill the chicks inside the eggs if there are any ?

For most small birds, it does take 13 days, so I suggest waiting about 17 days or so, taking the egg and putting it against a strong light, if it's dark inside, there's probably a chick in there.
If that doesn't make it clear, put the eggs in luke warm water, if there's a chick, the egg will float pointing down and make tiny movements.

I have never heard of any egg hatching in under 18 days. Do not remove the eggs until she gives them up.

My Lady Gouldian Finches hatched their eggs in 18 days from the start of incubation. Societies are commonly used as fosters for these birds, so I think their incubation period would be similar, if not the same.
