My son just turned 3 and he doesn't speak clearly. He will talk all day long but its just one work like juice or potty, and it's still not very coherent. His preschool teachers say there is nothing wrong with him, but it's getting pretty frustrating. Is there anything I can do to help him along?

You should speak to his doc. get some testing done. There is no harm. My 3 year old was just diagnosed with delayed speech he works with a speech therapist 2 times a week and it has really helped he went from 1 to 2 words to tons of word in months. kids really should start speaking by 2 years old, I know tons of people say they will speak when they want, but really what the harm to get a simple hearing test and speech evaluation. just to make sure, you dont want to miss something you could have fixed if it was caught early

Call the school district and have him tested
He should be given speech. School districts should give speech to three year old
Do not wait, Do it know so he is ready for the next school year.
Look to see if your insurance will cover Private speech lessons, if so get him tested there to
Call the school district tomorrow
My daughter was not speaking
She needed speech.
Some people are wrong that answer above
You need to get him tested, and go from there
My daughter was not talking in senentce until she was five. I got her in speech when she was two
Her speech problem made her behind in other areas
Get her tested, call tomorrow

You need to talk to your child's pediatrician. A child should be speaking at least 15 words by 18 months old, and speaking in 2 or 3 word sentences by age two. If they do not do this, it may be a sign of developmental delay, and they need help from a speech therapist. One of my friends daugters went through this, as well as my cousin's son. Things you can do to help are:
Speak to your child like they are an adult, in full sentences
Read to your child frequently
Dont respond to grunts, encourage them to verbalize what they want
Talk A LOT. Ask your child questions. Tell them the names of EVERYTHING. Describe everything you do. "Mommy is going to get you a snack from the refrigerator" "Mommy is going to change your clothes" "Mommy is fixing dinner. We are having ___" Ect....

These are the developmental milestones for a 3 year old.

Stop worrying, chat to him encourage his speech but do not pressure him. When he speaks if you cannot understand him repeat the phrase correctly so he hears the phrase properly.
Soon enough you will be wishing he`d be quiet for a minute.

When he says "juice" try to get him to say, I would like some juice. Even if it isn't every word after a while he will get it.
Good luck

talk to him a lot. when you are doing something, talk yourself through it, when he is doing something, do the same thing. the best thing you can do is talk, talk, talk. he will catch on.
