I'm 17 years old, 5'8" and weigh 140 lbs. My weight fluctuates, but I try to eat very well (fruits, veggies, whole grains) and exercise. Lately I haven't been exercising as much, and I've been eating more. I just hate that about myself. Last year I went through a phase where I had control over everything I ate...I'm just obsessed with my appearance and with being thin. I can't seem to satisfy myself. Does anyone have ANY advice? It's a distracting inner struggle that's affecting my focus and my life :( help please

First let me give you a link to an ideal weight chart - you are fine and will continue to grow and fill out: http://www.healthchecksystems.com/heightweightchart.htm

I have been largely in your range for most of my life too and I will tell you that I have the most success with keeping my weight were I want it when I am happy (that means not hating yourself for anything) and when I remind my self that it is easy for me to maintain an optimum weight (even when the evidence proves otherwise).

It is a distracting struggle and as you can see it largely happens in the mind. We get bogged down with other people's ideal, mean things that someone said or just plain self pity and lose our positive focus. Try doing some Yoga (http://www.yogajournal.com is a great help) to calm the mental debate and visualize yourself as you would like to see yourself. If you can see it, you can be it. Be kind to yourself.

Peace!

Yep, girl take up kick boxing or something.

Just find an activity that's agressive and makes you feel accomplished.

Focus on enjoying yourself and building your confidence. The rest will come with that. As for the male attention that comes with that confidence, ..., pick boy friends carefully. Date a nice guy who actually cares about your priorities as well as opposed to a self absorbed but possibly better looking jerk.

Attitude is the key ingredient in body image from a man's point of view. Most males are attracted to a woman more by a sassy or self-confident attitude than by physical appearance alone. So please, if you think your appearance is attractive you are more than half way to being totally attractive. Now throw in intelligence and you have an attractive woman in body, mind, and spirit. Wow!

just know this... 90% of all photos you see in magazines have been retouched or edited to make the models "appear" perfect. im sure your fine, eat right... dont starve yourself, exercise in a group.
