Contraband is usually classified as something illegal. Weapons, ammunition, drugs, alcohol, etc., can all be cinsidered contraband. A peddler is someone who will sell this stuff, illegally !

not familiar with the book, but anything that is not allowed by a controlling authority is contraband, like weapons being smuggled, dirty magazines, drugs, and in some cases food, just about anything can be classifies as contraband
