The Jupiter Hotel is a good spot just across the river on E Burnside. It would be a 4 min cab ride downtown or about a 20 min walk. I think prices are about $45/night. Nothing fancy, just good rooms, young crowd, can get noisy, cool trendy bar with dance floor below.

There are a couple hostels, one is in the SE on Hawthorn Ave at around 30th I think. Its about an 6 min drive to downtown or a 25 min walk or a short bus ride. Not sure of the rates but its cheap and it looks like a cool place, it is very Portland, has an 'eco-roof' and compost pile, even a grill on the porch and a garden on the side.

The is another hostel in the NW district just outside the Pearl district. It is part of HI, you should be able to find it on their website.

Inn at Northrup Station is a trendy boutique hotel in the northwest district, a 25 min walk from downtown or a 10 min ride on the street car or a few min by cab. Stylish, trendy rooms around $80-$120 i think.

There is an Ace hotel that just opened, I heard they are budget range. should be on citysearch or the yellow pages.

portland.craigslist.com might get you someones loft or apartment for a week. search the postings, I am always amazed at the things I find on there.

portland.citysearch.com is a good place to go for info. It has user ratings for everything and addresses, phone numbers, etc.

Take a look at Extended Stay hotels and their sister hotels (http://www.extendedstayhotels.com/). There are six locations around Portland.

"ExtendedStayHotels.com gives you the choice of budget studios for business travel, relocation, temporary housing or vacations as well as suites for daily, weekly and monthly rentals. Free yourself from the confines of your average hotel room. Every suite has a kitchen so you can cook and eat on your own schedule. Spend more time relaxing and less money on your next trip for business or leisure."

I subscribed to their e-mail newsletter and saved $10 a night and they are always offering special promotions of $100 off a week stay. Their rates are normally about $50 a night for a week long stay. With the kitchen in the room you can really save on the cost of a stay. I've found the hotels to be extremely clean and very nice. A good value overall.

Try Homestead Village. They're really nice and most have weekly rates that come out to about $40/day.
