I find it interesting how we define a "life" in America. In America we tend to define a life as the person with the most rat races, most responsibilities, little disposable income and free time. While people who avoid unwanted responsibilities, have lots of disposable income, free-time and live life to his or her own accord we in turn tell those people to "get a life". You go to places like Canada and Europe and they define a life over there as someone who lives life to their own accord and have lots of free-time and disposable income. While once again here in America we tell those people to.....you guessed it.....get a life. I think here in America we get upset and jealous of people who avoid the status quo and still get ahead with half the effort. If so do we as Americans get upset by people who get ahead with no responsibilites (little to no kids, little debt, lots of free-time etc) and tell these people to get a life? Also, how do you define a life?

I find that I don't use that sentance often but I have used it a few times on here, I say it to people who come on here to torment, talk down to and hurt other people. In my opinon they do not have a life of their own, if they did, they wouldn't spend it making other people miserable. I also see people on here dwelling and going on and on about the most immature things, such as should my boyfriend fight my ex-boyfirend. I find that kind of thing very ignorant and a waste of time. I think these people should get a life, in the sense of go and do something good for people, even if it is on here, help people, don't belittle them. That is the reason I say it.

I define "having a life" as doing what makes you happy as long as you arent hurting anyone. I tend to use "get a life" on people who are the type who thrive off insulting others, or creating drama. As far as work goes, I personally dont feel like working 40 years of my life just to make someone else rich is much of a life. Yeah, my husband and I dont make much money, but our daughter has everything she needs, and a lot of what she wants, and so do we. I run a home business to be here with her, and my husband works as a mechanic because it makes him happy. I personally am very happy with my "life", and very fulfilled. If other people are happy running the rat race, good for them. Some body has to do it, just not me :)

As a teen, I found it really annoying when my mom told me "just wait until you are living in the REAL world!" Like what, just because I wasnt an adult yet, my "world" wasn't "real"?! Sheesh. Some people are just jealous of those of us who are laid back and happy. For some reason, they consider being a slave to bosses, schedules, money, and stress, as having a "real life". I dont get it. I only get one life on earth, why waste it?!

My husband and I are sometimes criticized as being rather "boring." We both work full time, while many of our friends don't, and live off the system. So I guess, by comparisson, we are rather boring. Everyone has to be happy with the life they choose, because ultimately you are the one living it - not them - and if they want you to get a life maybe it's really them who are fed-up with their life. People are the most critical of those who they either fear or have something they wish they had deep down inside.

I think what it means is to mind your own business and not participate in gossip. Also,to do something meaningful with your life, whatever that might be to you. If people would mind their own business and not criticize others I think everyone would be alot better off.
