if you have a knack for calming people down, and planning an event--then you won't need a degree. in fact, i don't recommend spending any money on your wedding planner education.

to see if wedding planning is something you want to do long-term, and to gain experience--talk to a local church and ask to speak with the wedding planner. explain that you would like to volunteer your time this summer, learning the ropes. or, seek out a wedding chapel (if your town has that sort of thing) to work for.

and then, read wedding magazines and websites to get the latest!

if this is still something you enjoy, you can get a business license and start your own planning service!

I don't think you have to have a degree to become a wedding planner. If you did want to get an educational background, I would guess that Public Relations would be a good field. You will have to know how to work with people and get what you/the bride wants.

Find wedding planners in your area. E-mail them and tell them you're an aspiring wedding planner and wondered how they got into it. I'm not sure what major you'd need- something with people.

There is a specific course at different Universities that specialize solely on obtaining that degree. I know Calgary, AB. offers one. You should check in your local area to see if there may be something available. It may even be something you can take as correspondence.
