There was a disputed $74 item on my credit report from back in 2001. It was removed and now it is showing back on my credit report again. It has greatly reduced my score. I worked very hard to bring my score up.

I am disputing it through experian, again. Are collection agencies alowed to remove an item and then put it back in for collections, after it was disputed? And what can I do to have it removed?

Also, is there anyway to remove credit inquiries from companies I didn't get approved from my report to help bring my score back up a bit?

If a collection agency removes their tradeline on their own (you hadn't disputed it) then they cannot legally place it back on your reports.

If a collection agency removes a disputed tradeline, they can re-insert it - BUT - you MUST be notified that it is being placed back on your reports.

Also, if it is re-inserted it cannot be re-aged to run longer than it normally would have to begin with.
Credit cards, medical bills, loans, utility bills, etc. run for 7 years.

I have a link to the FCRA on my profile, I would suggest that you read it and learn your rights - and use them.

You cannot legally dispute inquiries that are on your reports when the company that placed them there had permisible purpose - your applications etc.

I understand that you dispute the item, but do you legitimately owe it? If so, yes, they have the right (and obligation) to report accurate information. If no, make sure you dispute any inaccuracies with all 3 national bureaus.

Regarding inquiries, there is no way to remove inquiries which resulted from applying for credit. The only thing that will remove inquiries is time.

I had the same problem. Make sure that you dispute it with ALL 3 major credit companies - Experian, Trans Union, and Equifax... and keep on contacting them until it gets resolved. NO! they are NOT allowed to put it back on your report... UNLESS the company that issued the complaint against you is continuing the process and they never were informed of the mishap. So contact that company as well. Been there - done that
