One most preach but don't really practice too well (at least not the priests) is: Have better control of your gun.
However, when it comes to actual firearms: it varies with each person.

While I was raised in the Catholic church I never heard guns mentioned one way or another in more than 20 years. After leaving the Catholic church and learning something about the Bible I came across this:
Luke 22:35-36 "And He said to them, "When I sent ou out without money belt and bag and sandals, you did not lack anything did you?" and they said "No, nothing". And He said to them, "But now, whoever has a money belt is to take it, likewise also a bag, and whoever has no sword is to sell his coat and buy one"..."
And He was not talking about a copy of the Scriptures either because just a few verses down Peter is lobbing of a guys ear with a sword.
As the rather long answer with the 30 year old stats, those stats have been proven to be incorrect, produced with preconceived conclusions. They are irrlelvent in any case being over 30 years old. Its like saying that in the 1800 we had fewer car deaths!
There are many more guns NOW than there were in 1973, and more people and far FEWER gun related deaths.
But no matter what you tell some people, they feel that you are better off if you are left defenseless in the face of criminal aggression.

my pastors teach ther eis a time and a place for everything. guns do have their place in polite society. within people's homes hinting and sport.... no problems. it's all a matter of limits and realistic uses. we are not to use them to take another life "just for the heck of it" however in the case of kill or be killed while protecting ones family.... there is a difference.
