Iraq and Afghanistan are recognized as illegal wars created by Arab and American oil barons and their paid cronies. Bush and Cheney ( the paid cronies ;-) ) are put on trial for crimes against humanity.
This encourages many Middle Eastern states to rebel against Arabia and the US and use the EU system of commerce for all oil trade. This causes the collapse of the North American economy and civil war in the US.
China sees this as the perfect reason to strike to "protect the world from nuclear annihilation", and in the confusion of civil war they walk in with a billion person army and take over the US becoming the world's largest superpower. Millions of "freedom loving" Americans become martyrs in the process. The rest become slaves, how ironic.

Hmm. I imagine it would have something to do with the amount of petroleum in each country. The ones with it would be more powerful, since 14 years from now, most natural resources of oil would be depleted. Of course, this is if we don't switch to hydrogen power. But I really doubt the switch is going to happen anytime soon. =(
