During the first year of my daughter's life, I had her portrait taken once per month on the anniversary of her birth. Infants change rapidly and I wanted to capture these changes.

During her second year, I had her portrait taken every six months on the anniversary of her birth. The changes are less obvious and toddlers aren't so cooperative when having their photo taken! I will continue this process until she starts school. Then I will decrease to once per year when she gets school portraits.

Hope this helps:-)

Professionally I had my daughter's done at birth, 3mos, 6mos, 9mos. I will do them again at a year then only yearly after that. Babies change SO much in the 1st year that I wanted to have pictures of her to show how much she had changed. I know people that went every month for the 1st year but I felt that was too excessive for us.

i take them about twice a year, somewhere nice to geat them made,on special occasions.
i love taking pictures myself, at the lake,by an old house or barn ect. they always seem to turn out better. my favorute thing to do is have them made in black and white. most of the pics around my house are pics that i've taken and when people come over they think that i had them done.
plus kids are going to give you a better picture when they are in there on enviroment.

I would go at least 2 times a year. When they are younger, go more since they are growing so quickly. Then, school can do some when they are older. Take a lot of home pics. Sometimes those are the best.

cool question...

if nothing else, I think I can offer a unique perspective on this subject?

let's see;

15 years ago I had my first child... between over-vealous grandparents and myself she had her picture taken every two weeks until six months old.... 12 times, yes.... and then six more that first year..... the following year it was six times total yrly.... until she started school... then it was four....
my second daughter was ten yrs ago... her first yr she had hers done eight times.... then the four with her sister after that.. and one sitting at a different time alone... so five total.... till she went to school....
my next was eight year ago.... he joined the "group" sittings plus the first yr two other ones.. so, first year he had six and then after that he was in daycare.... they did one similiar to school pictures yrly so he only had four others....for two years.... then I dropped two picture days... and we did only family once a year and just the three children once a year... all have school pictures done..
four years ago my third daughter came and she had only two sittingsone with her siblings... one alone...
number five came and I went a little nutty... lol... looking at the pictures hanging and in albums... I had five sittings that year... all group.... one of just the two that did not go to school, the rest of all the children....

we had a meeting then, the kids and I....lol.. picture five children.... youngest two months eldest twelve yrs... no one sits still at the same time... no one smiles at the same time... it takes forty-five minutes to get everyone to sit still and look at the camera... sigh... even though usually everyplace does five various shots? I only have one done.. all shots of that are taken ultra quick once people are finally posed... lol... it is truly a comdey act to see.... really..... anyway.... we decided as a group that we would settle for twice a year, make it fun by picking a different holiday/theme yrly and then one tradional holiday.... like valentine's and christmas... or spring and halloween.... my daughter wants arbor day and saint patricks for next yr.... interesting choices.....
a yr ago the baby came.... he has had his done once... in the hospital... and twice with the other children....

the changes are so drastic when they are youngest.... I miss not having the little ones done and think four times yrly till school is probably a good amount.... with one or two "family/fun" ones along with them....
only have them this age once...

I opt for taking my own pictures more often now..... and my digital? it gets quite the work out...lol... daily....

thank for taking time from your schedule to read this answer....
and for listening....
hope it has helped

When my lad was a wee baby we had his photo done every six months as he always grew so much and looked much different. Now we have it done once a year proff but he also has his school ones done as well.

As babies. At 6weeks, 6months and 12 months. As older children, once a year.
