I believe holy water is just made up of water blessed by a priest...the oil you might be thinking of is chrism, or holy chrism. I don't know what kind of oil they use exactly, but chrism is just oil that is blessed by a priest and is used in many sacraments.

you opened a can of worms.

Holy water, not to be confused with troubled water is only mentioned one place in the Bible.

Numbers 5 vs 17 vs 22.

the law of jealousy. when a man thought that his wife may be cheating (Holy Water was used for cursing)The holy water in an earthen vessel and sweep the dust of the floor of the Holy of Holies and put it in the Holy Water. She was to drink it.

If she were innocent , She shall have a child. If she is guilty ,The water will become bitter, her stomach will swell and and her thighs will rot and the woman will be an outcast among her people.

I have studied the Bible for many years and seen no other mention of Holy water.

there's cold, bitter, living, still, deep, standing and mighty.

I understand there are denominations and religions that advocate Holy Water. But it will not be found in Gods word and neither is the source.

May the Lord truly bless you

Holy water is simply water that is blessed by a priest--it doesn't contain anything oily or otherwise. If you don't believe just go ask a priest and he will tell you the same thing!

If the holy water looks oily, it might be from other people's fingers natural body oils that have been transferred to it when they dipped their fingers.

As an altar boy, I once watched a priest bless a tank of holy water. It's just tap water. No additives other than blessings.

Well the oil business is news to me. I just thought that the holy man invokes the name of the magical mr jesus and casts his spell on the water and hey presto! Holy water.
